
Key Stage 4 Alternatives
The Alternatives Programme has been running in the school for 6 years. Its aims are to encourage improved attendance and academic performance at Key Stage 4. Personal Development Education, job specific skills training and ICT training are integral to the programme. GCSE, Entry Level and Key Skills qualifications are also undertaken by the beneficiaries.
INDIVIDUAL STUDIES
Each pupil will negotiate a new timetable that reflects better their personal interests and abilities. Each student will retain a minimum of 4 GCSE subjects and will undertake certificate awards in many areas. Each pupil will be encouraged to attain certificates in LITERACY, NUMERACY and ICT. Peace and Reconciliation workshops and residentials and work related skills training are also undertaken by the pupils.
XL
The boys will undertake the Personal Development qualification LV which is delivered by a worker from the Youth Service. This is undertaken in partnership with the school and on occasions Dr. Croal will assist with certain activities. The XL Programme is organised by The Prince's Trust and seeks to develop the individual participants by focussing on personal development and skills training.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Every pupil will be able to attend a relevant work placement. This will take place each Thursdaywhen Dr. Croal will be able to visit the boys and their employers in order to assess their progress. It is expected that each pupil will attain an Entry Level qualification.
