GARETH BLADES

I attended the Boys' Model from Sep 1989 to June 1997, I was an old man when I left! I enjoyed every bit of it. Teachers who I recall and have great memories of are Geordie Beattie, Dennis Banks, Mr Cotton, Mr Leaney, Davey McKendry, Maggie Fry and the list could go on!!!

I see the new school building comming on now, great news!! But the Ballysillan Road will not look the same when the old School vanishes. Some fond memories during my time there, I can still smell the classrooms and corridors....(is that weird)!!

Happy Days!!!!

Attended 1964-68. Mr. McNeilly was the boss, Ernie Davis, Mr Johnston, Mr Dinsmore. Most of the teachers had great nicknames that I remember better than their own names. It is a good school, I have a few fond memories. I try to drive past everytime we return to Belfast.

Hi. I was at the School from 85 to 92 and cannot believe it's been so long since I left. My memories are: Liz Armour, Davie McKendry (Milky Bar Kid), Ma Fry, Basher Banks, Spot the History teacher.... I could go on! It was great times that I look back on fondly.

I have been in the the RAF for over 12 years and thank Davie McKendry who always had faith that a troublesome Shankill Rd lad could do well. I am now a Flt Lt in the RAF and have gained a 1st Class Eng degree and move on to a MSc.

The Staff were always so professional-even picking me up from home to make sure I got to school! I was not a good at attending. I do hope to make a visit sometime soon. Davy McKendry if you read this, Clifford, my brother has also got his degree-again I think you always knew we would come good!

Thanks to all of you!

I started the Boys Model School from 1980-1985. I remember Mr Swan who taught music, I got to join the choir. I remember Mr Todd who taught History and his nickname was shoe-string. The best teacher I had while I was at the Boys Model School was Mr Mc Cleneghan who taught Geography. On a Tuesday evening he took a group of us to meet up with another school called Orange Field Secondary School, where we joined the scripture Union and we would play games and read the Bible every week.

I really enjoyed my time at the Boys' Model School. The Headmaster Mr Davis presented me with a plaque because I had attended the school for 5 years and never missed a day. I still have that plaque today and every time I look at it ,it will always bring back the memories I had of the time I was at the Boys' Model School.

I attended 1967-71 - I now live in South Africa.

I have great memories of the School, friends and the teachers.

Of course I played rugby (first year it was compulsory). But the love of the game I got at the Model led me to club rugby for the following 20 years, both in Ulster and SA.

I also played in what must be one of the greatest school bands ever, under the baton of Mr Ivan Black; including a TV appearance by the band with a young Gloria Hunniford.

Great site Guys, I really enjoyed the visit.

Great site for a great school, brings back a lot of happy memories.

My years were 1961 to 1965 and I must have taken something in as have been awarded the M.B.E. and managed to have five books published.

Would love to be invited back one day for the memories.
