Boys' Model visited Ashfield for the first League match of the season. The Model played well from the whistle, with M. Beattie scoring the first goal. From this Dickson takes the ball off Ashfield and hits one from the edge of the box with the Ashfield keeper making a good save. 5 minutes later Nixon hits one from the side of his foot and surprisingly it hits the back of the net. Ashfield get a break, but the Model defends well and gets possession of the ball. Beattie gets his second of the match with a penalty.
After half-time Mr. Mills brings on Magee and McCrea. There are few wide shots and a missed open net from the Model team, but then Graham plays Kinnear through for him to make it 4 for the Model. Model’s defence are solid, but there is a scramble in Model’s box and Ashfield get a goal. Model battle and work hard for the last 15 minutes of the game to keep the score 4-1 to the Model. The team get their first win of the season and are very happy with the result.

Whilst on the trip we were shown all the facilities at both Central Station and Great Victoria Street and also on the trains themselves. The match was played at Ashfield Boys’ School, on their 3rd generation football pitch. The Model started off the match well, with Greenwood narrowly missing from 6 yards out after a great run from his left back spot. After that the Model really started to turn up the tempo. With just over a half hour gone, after a great ball into the box from Johnny Adams, Aaron Harris killed the ball dead and Marcus Kane stole the ball of his foot and planted it into the back off the net past Ashfield’s goalkeeper.
In the second half the ball was knocked up the wing to Ross Johnston, Carl Morrison picked up the ball and hit a diagonal shot at an unbelievable pace past the keeper, so putting the game out of Ashfield’s reach.
