The school recorded a great win over Corpus Christi College in the Schools Cup final even though they played for most of the game with 10 men!! The boys started better and although Corpus threatened to get into the game through the first half the Model pupils never let up. The defence was solid and rarely allowed Corpus Christi an opening.
The school team was down to 10 men after the second minute when Ross Cowan was sent off for elbowing a Corpus player. Model went ahead in the 6th minute after a good run by Ryan Martin, he crossed from the corner and the dipping ball was met by Kirk Millar - Year 11 pupil.
Free kicks by both William Crossett and Ryan McCartney went wide and then Corpus eventually moved out of their own half. Corpus came into the game with a rebound shot going over the crossbar from close range.
Just before half-time Martin and Millar worked together to put Model 2 ahead. They went further ahead at the start of the second half, with Marcus Kane toe-poking the ball into the net from a corner taken by Kirk Millar.
Corpus never gave up and they got a late consolation goal in the dying minutes and then one of their players was sent off in the last minute for violent conduct.
Coach Colin Mills said that the early loss had in a way helped the Model side. "Strange as it may seem, we dug in and played with the utmost determination - I am proud of them".
