Match Report:

The Model started the game well, dominating possession and making Ashfield defend, which to their credit they did well during the first 15-20mins. The dead-lock was broken on the 20min mark when a mis-placed strike from Darren Bell, found its way to David Bright on the back post, which he placed into the bottom corner of the Ashfield goal. Model kept the momentum and were on the attack in no time, when a cross from Billy Brown found its way, yet again to David Bright, through a packed penalty area, but he hit the bar.

After withholding Models’ attack, Ashfield began to settle and start dominating possession and putting Model on the back foot. With 15mins left of the first half the Ashfield midfielder found himself with time and space, which he ran into and was brought down by Blaine Mullan and was awarded a penalty which the midfield took and placed into the left hand corner. Model then found themselves on the end of another Ashfield attack, which they took, when the Model defence found themselves to far up field and a cross in from the side found the Ashfield striker which he placed with power into the corner of Guy Spence’s net.

At half time the manager of the Model simply told the team to strengthen in midfield and attack the ball and not sit back when Ashfield were on the ball. Ashfield started the second half as they ended the first. They kept the ball well and dominated possession and Model where forced to defend attack after attack. With 10mins to go an Ashfield midfielder had a strike at goal which Guy Spence was alleged to half palm into the side of his own net, Model’s manager saw this as a weird decision but after reassurance from Mr Murray he then accepted it as a goal.

The final score ended Model 1-3 Ashfield. The manager reassured the team at the end of the game that it was a good performance despite this being the first time the team have played together against a well-groomed team.
