The Boys' Model Samba drummers had a unique experience when they were able to perform with "Moleque de Rua." This group of Brazilians have been touring Europe and came to the School of Music to present a workshop to 3 school groups. The day began with performances by Moleque de Rua, Afreeka and the Boys' Model. We were divided into groups playing separate instruments and after 11/2 - 2 hours, we came together to perform. What a sound!!! Over 50 samba players making music together - ear plugs were definitely required!!
After a short lunch, it was back to practising. A number of complicated rhythms were combined on surdo, snare and repinique drums as well as tambourim and agogo bells.
It was hard work and took alot of concentration but everyone thoroughly enjoyed working with the "true professionals"!!! Look at the photos in the Gallery.
