Best Foot Forward for Senior School Relay Teams

10 relay teams of Senior School pupils and staff competed in the Belfast City Marathon this Bank Holiday. Money raised by pupils and staff will be shared between Barnardos and Aware Defeat Depression, the pupils’ choice of charities.

There were many relieved and flushed faces in Ormeau Park, where the teams met for some refreshments at the end of the event. Both pupils and staff were united in feeling a sense of achievement on completing their part of the route, whatever their age, fitness level or prior training. Many pupils ran on the ‘extra mile’ or miles, to complete an additional leg. Special mention must go to Stuart McCaw who ran the full 26 miles in a great time - 5 hours and 19 minutes!!

This is the second year the Senior School has been involved in the relay event and last year five teams raised over £1000 for charity. The growing popularity of what now looks to be an annual event in the Senior School calendar, is a great opportunity for pupils to focus on doing something for others, as well as improving their own physical fitness and benefitting from the camaraderie of the event.

Teams, times and photos will be added tomorrow.
