Passion, drive and commitment are the keys to achieving sports success according to local sports stars and past pupils of Belfast Boys’ Model School who recently attended the school’s annual sports presentation.
With a star line up of Ryan Garrett, Linfield FC, Jordan Owen, Crusaders FC, Jason Hill, Glentoran FC and Jason Crawford, Malone Rugby, who all started their sporting careers while attending Belfast Boys’ Model School, as well as Crusaders manager, Stephen Baxter, the event saw current students and potential stars of the future rewarded for their hard work throughout the year.
Pupils of the north Belfast school received numerous accolades in various categories including football, hockey, rugby and cricket and special awards for athletics and cross country. The event recognised students who had shown commitment and drive and served to ignite the passion and hunger for success which saw past pupils reach their sporting goals.
With a question and answer session chaired by BBC Radio Ulster’s sports commentator, Joel Taggart, following the presentation, the local football and rugby players all agreed that success depends not just on skill and talent but on motivation, determination and a lot of hard work. Ryan Garrett, Linfield FC said, “To make it in the sporting world you have to push yourself to the limit and be determined to win. Students have demonstrated today that they have the potential to be top of their game in their chosen field. I am sure that many more Belfast Boys’ Model School students will be grabbing back page newspaper headlines in future.”
Colin Mills, Sports Teacher added to this, “There is a lot of sporting talent in Belfast Boys’ Model School and today recognised the hard work that has been put in throughout the year. I am confident that we have rising stars among us and it is important to nurture this talent so that students realise their full sporting potential.”
Current Year 14 student, Linfield FC and U18 Northern Ireland player, Marcus Kane, received a special award in recognition of his achievements to date.
