Aims

  • To develop each pupils’ musical ability

  • To stimulate and develop an appreciation and enjoyment of music through active involvement in performing, composing and listening

  • To increase pupils’ confidence and promote a positive attitude towards music

  • To provide an opportunity for pupils to extend their musical ability through other extra-curricular activities

Key Stage 3

Year 8

  • Instruments of the Orchestra - pupils will develop an understanding of the instruments in the orchestra

  • Building Bricks - pupils will learn to recognize musical terms such as dynamics, duration, tempo, timbre

Year 9

  • Time Keeping – pupils will learn the meaning of beat & pulse

  • Introduction to DJing - pupils will learn about the job role of a DJ, the work involved, the skills required and the equipment used

  • World Music – pupils will develop a knowledge of the instruments and musical culture of China and Africa

Year 10

  • Dance Music - pupils will gain a knowledge of dance music through a variety of listening, composing and performing activities

  • Film Music - pupils will learn about the concepts relating to Film music

Pupils will also have the opportunity to learn and develop practical skills using a variety of percussion instruments, African drums, Ukulele and DJ decks.


Key Stage 4

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Performance Skills Using Music

  • Unit 1: Develop Technique for Performance - this unit provides an opportunity to develop the practice skills required for DJing

  • Unit 2: Rehearse and Perform - this unit develops the understanding and effectiveness of rehearsal processes and performance skills and discipline

  • Unit 3: Solo musical performance - this unit focuses on enabling the learner to develop some of the specific skills required by a solo musician

Each pupil is required to create a portfolio of evidence, which demonstrates achievement of all learning outcomes associated with each unit.

Each unit of the qualification is graded using a structure of Pass or Not Yet Achieved.
