Holocaust memorial Day commemoration will take place on Thursday 24 January 2019 at City Hall. This date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. As part of this event, Joan Slater, a child survivor of the Holocaust visited our school to speak to 300 pupils from BBMS, BGMS and Mercy College about her personal story of the Holocaust. She talked to the pupils about her life journey and they had an opportunity to ask questions. Later, she met with GCSE pupils, who are studying the Holocaust, in a small group. All staff and pupils involved were very moved with her commitment to talking about her life as a way to break down barriers and bring about a greater understanding of History and the Holocaust.
