Curriculum
Numeracy Programme
Belfast Boys’ Model school strives to improve the Numeracy skills of all pupils.
"Good numeracy is the best protection against unemployment, low wages and poor health."
- Andreas Schleicher
Numeracy is used in everyday life from telling the time, cooking, managing our diet and nutrition, managing money and so on.

It is important that our pupils are confident with numbers. Pupils' ability with numbers can impact them socially, financially and professionally, therefore it is of upmost importance that we provide effective and continued Numeracy Support.

Intervention
Numeracy intervention runs throughout the school year and is designed to support students who are finding maths challenging. Identified students attend intervention sessions once per week during the school day. These sessions take place in small groups to provide focused support and help students build confidence and a positive relationship with numbers, improving their overall classroom experience and everyday life skills.

Students are selected for numeracy intervention based on their Progress Test in Maths (PTM) results and ongoing assessment tracking. Where appropriate, additional diagnostic assessments may be carried out to identify specific areas for improvement. Intervention is carefully monitored and evaluated to ensure effectiveness.

As part of the programme, students will complete one online session per week using a personalised learning platform, providing interactive exercises tailored to each student’s skill level, offering immediate feedback and clear explanations for incorrect answers.
Maths Club
Belfast Boys’ Model school also runs Maths clubs after school for all year groups where Maths Teachers help students with their homework and with revision leading up to class tests/ external exams.
